Democrats press ICE to confront imposters amid agents’ ‘failure’ to ID themselves
House Democrats are demanding a briefing with leaders from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the FBI after the bureau advised immigration agents to begin identifying themselves amid a series of criminal acts carried out by impersonators.
An October bulletin from the FBI first reported last week detailed a string of crimes carried out by those who manipulated victims by claiming to be U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
“According to the memo, criminals have capitalized on ICE’s dangerous deployment of masked agents across the country by masquerading as immigration agents while engaging in violent crimes such as robberies, kidnappings, and sexual assault. This is deeply disturbing. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must brief us immediately on the threats posed by ICE’s failure to identify themselves and how DHS will implement the FBI’s recommendations,” Rep. Bennie Thompson (Miss.), the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, wrote in a letter signed by all the Democrats on the panel.
The FBI bulletin outlined five known instances in which someone impersonated an ICE agent, though the Democrats posited that “there are surely many others that have gone unreported.”
The bulletin said law enforcement officers of all stripes need to “identify themselves during operations and cooperate with individuals who request further verification, such as calling their local precinct to verify the officer’s identity.”

Lawmakers warn Democratic governors that states are sharing drivers’ data with ICE
A group of Democratic lawmakers have sent letters to several state governors, including in Arizona, California, Colorado, and Wisconsin, warning that their states are inadvertently sharing drivers’ data with federal immigration authorities.
The letter, which was first reported by Reuters, told governors that their states are providing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies “with frictionless, self-service access to the personal data of all of your residents,” through a nonprofit managed by state police agencies called the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, or Nlets.
Nlets facilitates the sharing of state residents’ personal data, in this case driver license data, between state, local, and federal police agencies.
The lawmakers asked the group of governors to stop the practice and block access to ICE and “other federal agencies that are now acting as Trump’s shock troops.”

This chemical is not only in the drinking water of Palestine, but in the water of 15% of Israelis. It doesn’t end there. Given all the treatment facilities in Gaza were destroyed, the sludge is leaching into the Mediterranean Sea causing sea-life die out. The affected states will be vast!

Love them as yourself because you were foreigners in Egypt.” In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul writes that “the entire law is fulfilled in the keeping of this one commandment, love your neighbor as yourself.” And in the gospel of Luke, a lawyer asks Jesus to clarify “who is my neighbor,” no doubt hoping to precisely differentiate between people who must be loved and who can be regarded with cruelty or indifference. In response, Jesus tells a story of a Good Samaritan — a foreigner — who stops to show mercy to a stranger who’s been attacked and beaten on the street.
The message is clear, we are a good neighbor when we show mercy. And our neighbor is the least fortunate person we know.
