🇮🇷🇦🇲 #Iran and #Armenia to Strengthen Cooperation: https://theatlasnews.co/latest/2024/06/30/iran-and-armenia-to-strengthen-cooperation/
On Friday, June 28th, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, expressed Iran’s willingness to increase cooperation with Armenia. The Ambassador’s statements come amidst heightened tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. @AtlasNewsTelegram
Iran and Armenia have a unique historical relationship that goes back thousands of years. A significant portion of the world’s oldest Armenian churches lie within Iran’s northwestern regions, an area Armenians were native to. Since Armenia’s independence after the fall of the Soviet Union, Armenia and Iran have held close relations, establishing themselves as strategic partners for each other despite their ideological differences.
In modern times, Iran’s closeness to Armenia is partly driven by the lack of it between Iran and Azerbaijan.
Iran and Azerbaijan’s relations have historically been tense. In recent years, most of this tension has been caused by Azerbaijan’s close relationship with Israel. Israel has become Azerbaijan’s top military provider, supplying Azerbaijan with an estimated 70 percent of Azerbaijan’s military arsenal.
Israeli military equipment, in particular drone technology, was pivotal in securing Azerbaijan’s victory in the 2020 44-Day War (also known as the Second Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh War).
Iran has further accused Azerbaijan of being host to an Israeli military presence and of holding an agreement with Israel that will allow for the use of Azeri military bases to carry out air strikes against Iran in the event of military conflict.
In turn, Iran has been accused of attempting to carry out several attacks and cyber attacks against Israeli and US diplomatic elements within Azerbaijan’s borders.
While the two nations espouse cooperation, tensions between the two have been inflamed and have thawed on several occasions in the last several years.

🇸🇾 🇹🇷 Clashes have broken out between Syrian protestors and Turkish military forces in several areas across northern #Syria, such as #Afrin, #Jarabulus, and #Aleppo. @AtlasNewsTelegram
The clashes come in partial response to rioting in #Turkey’s/#Turkiye's #Melikgazi region that targeted Syrian neighborhoods and businesses, which was spurred amid reports that a Syrian refugee allegedly sexually assaulted or harassed a young, reported 5 or 7 years old in some outlets, Syrian girl in Kayseri reports AP. 67 people were arrested in connection to the riots and violence that followed. Cars were overturned and shops set aflame by residents who called for Syrians to leave Turkey.
This incident seems to have catalyzed already existing anti-Turkish sentiment in a population opposed to the Assad government during a time when Turkey and Syria are normalizing relations, an opportunity to disrupt that normalization seems to be the goal.
Officials said the alleged abuser was arrested while the girl, her siblings, and mother were placed under state protection where they would receive psychological support. President of Turkey Erdogan accused opposition parties of inciting xenophobia and hatred through advocating for repatriation of Syrian immigrants or advocating for violence against them.
There are indications that elements of the Syrian National Army (#SNA), which has historically been Turkish backed, are taking part in clashes and attacks against Turkish military forces. Via theatlasnews.co

🇹🇷 🇸🇾 Anti-#Turkiye sentiment has continued to spike in Syrian areas occupied by Turkish military forces following the events in Turkey regarding Syrian migrants. Although similarly timed, anti-occupation demonstrations and opposition to Turkish military forces in Syria has been contentious long before the events in Melikgazi.
Turkish flags are being torn down, replaced, and burned/destroyed, vehicles with Turkish plates are being targeted, and most prominently, Turkish military checkpoints and bases in #Syria are being stormed and burned. @ourwarstoday
By all accounts, it seems the SNA and possibly other armed individuals or groups are getting involved also in targeting Turkish installations.
Turkish military troops reportedly have abandoned the base in Takad, Aleppo, allowing those who stormed the base to capture armored vehicles including an M113, in other areas military trucks and MRAPs have been captured as well by mobs of armed and unarmed individuals.

Protest of Assad/Syrian government and disruption of the normalization of relations between Syria and Turkey were reportedly a large reason for this unrest, with the migrant situation in Turkey being a catalyst for an already unstable powder keg. @ourwarstoday
Footage shows Syrian protestors confronting Turkish soldiers as well as aligned Arab militiamen, they say reportedly: " You sold us to Bashar (Assad) and his dogs. Should we hand you over to the PKK? You are traitors. We do not bow down to anyone other than Allah.”

🇷🇺 Russian counter-drone "Mad Max"-esque buggy armed with a frontal turret of two mounted PKT 7.62x54mmR machine-guns flanked by an improvised six-barrel muzzle-loading shotgun placed between them, plus a platform of six AK-12s on a secondary platform on the rear of the buggy. @AtlasNewsTelegram
#Russian state media TASS writes: "The personnel of an air defense battalion from #Russia’s Southern Battlegroup constructed a buggy vehicle dubbed "ZVeraBoy" to fight enemy drones in the special military operation in Ukraine, the battalion commander with the call sign Krivich told TASS on Monday.
"The idea of creating such a mobile vehicle to fight enemy drones originated long ago. As its major feature, the vehicle integrates all the armaments that have been used in mobile counter-drone systems at aerial surveillance posts for already twelve months. All these armaments are integrated into one vehicle to destroy FPV drones," the commander explained.
The battalion’s personnel welded the buggy’s hull on their own. The vehicle’s front part features a turret with two mounted PKT machine-guns and an improvised six-barrel muzzle-loading shotgun placed between them. The front turret mounts a thermal imaging sight that projects images to a monitor on a passenger seat. Turret control and firing are automated and conducted from a passenger seat.
The rear turret that rotates 360 degrees is equipped with six coaxial AK-12 assault rifles that conduct simultaneous fire.
In addition, six shotguns for buckshot fire are installed along the vehicle’s perimeter. Instead of buckshot, servicemen situationally use 7.62mm bullets glued together with wax.
The buggy is currently undergoing a final round of testing and will soon be sent to the frontline."

🇺🇸 #Trump Immunity Ruling:
In a 6-3 decision, the #UnitedStates Supreme Court has ruled that former President Donald Trump is ennoscriptd to “absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority,” however, there is “no immunity for unofficial acts” taken in a private capacity. @AtlasNewsTelegram
How this will apply to federal charges brought against Trump for alleged efforts to subvert the 2020 Presidential Election remains unclear, as SCOTUS did not apply the ruling to whether or not certain actions taken regarding January 6 were in an official or unofficial capacity.
The case has been sent back down to trial court for further proceedings, which will likely go on past the 2024 Presidential Election. Likewise, anything deemed as an official act, such as communications between the President and his advisers, cannot be used in court. Via theatlasnews.co

The justices, in a 6-3 ruling authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, threw out a lower court's decision that had rejected Trump's claim of immunity from federal criminal charges involving his efforts to undo his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden. The six conservative justices were in the majority, while its three liberal members dissented.
Trump is the Republican candidate challenging Biden, a Democrat, in the Nov. 5 U.S. election in a 2020 rematch. The Supreme Court's slow handling of the case, coupled with its decision to return key questions about the scope of Trump's immunity to lower courts to resolve, make it improbable he will be tried on the election subversion charges brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith before the election.
"We conclude that under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of presidential power requires that a former president have some immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts during his tenure in office," Roberts wrote.
Immunity for former presidents is "absolute" with respect to their "core constitutional powers," Roberts wrote, and a former president has "at least a presumptive immunity" for "acts within the outer perimeter of his official responsibility," meaning that prosecutors face a high legal bar to overcome that presumption.
The court analyzed four categories of conduct contained in Trump's indictment. They are: his discussions with U.S. Justice Department officials following the election; his alleged pressure on then-Vice President Mike Pence to block congressional certification of Biden's win; his alleged role in assembling fake pro-Trump electors to be used in the certification process; and his conduct related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters.
Roberts cited the need for U.S. presidents on principal to "execute the duties of office fearlessly and fairly" without the threat of prosecution. –Reuters

🇵🇸🇮🇱 Evacuation Orders Issued for #KhanYounis: https://theatlasnews.co/latest/2024/07/02/evacuation-orders-issued-for-khan-younis/
The IDF has issued renewed evacuation orders for areas in eastern Khan Younis, in the southern #Gaza Strip, #Palestine. Thousands of civilians have evacuated, including from the European Hospital, as fears grow of a seemingly impending ground invasion of the city. @AtlasNewsTelegram
Approximately 250,000 civilians have now fallen under evacuation orders by the #IDF as they prepare for expanded operations in Khan Younis, Gaza’s second-largest city. Thousands of civilians, many of whom have been displaced before, have now been instructed to evacuate to the Al-Mawasi ‘humanitarian zone,’ which covers the coastal area of Al-Mawasi, as well as western areas of Khan Younis.
The new evacuation order given borders this humanitarian zone. Areas of #Rafah, in the very south of Gaza, are still under evacuation as Israel continues operations there.
Within the new evacuation zone lies the European Hospital. Not only is the hospital one of the few that remain in Khan Younis, but it is one of the last that had remained operational in the entirety of Gaza.
#Israel's military specifically stated that the European Hospital was not subject to evacuation, and would be permitted to continue operation. However, sources within the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) have claimed that patients are being evacuated to other hospitals within the humanitarian zone.

AP: Israel’s military estimated that around 1.9 million people — more than 80% of all Palestinians in the Gaza Strip — are now clustered into the territory’s central region.
Sigrid Kaag, the top U.N. humanitarian official for Gaza, said there are around 1.9 million displaced people in Gaza. She said civilians in the besieged territory have been pushed “into an abyss of suffering.”
Evacuees have been told by Israel to seek refuge in an overcrowded coastal area where there are few basic services and which is filled with sprawling tent camps. The war has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and goods to Gaza, and people are totally dependent on humanitarian aid. The top U.N. court has concluded there is a "plausible risk of genocide" in Gaza — a charge Israel strongly denies.
