BBC reporting 60 dead, 140 wounded in total citing health officials at the Airport.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks in Kabul
And for those who need more contact the Taliban has been fighting ISIS-K for years. ISIS has also been attacking Kabul for years and have been responsible for most of the bombings against the city, such as the attack against the girls school earlier this year that killed 70, most of which were children.
The Taliban claim to have taken control of parts of the military side of Kabul airport (not by force), likely signaling full NATO departure from the country soon.
From what I am seeing Marine LCpl. Ricky Thompson, 21, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, and was not a casualty of the Kabul airport suicide bombing. Reportedly due to suicide.
HKIA still on high alert for the possibility of more ISKP attacks as evacuation efforts continue.
Round 2
Pro tip to anyone who is in the journalism field: don’t do this.
I’m seeing reports of rocket fire in Kabul. No information on targets or if this is being mistaken as drone strikes. Either way we will need to wait for more details.
Reports of rocket fire from a parked vehicle inside Kabul aimed at the
Hamid Karzai international airport, however, the rockets didn’t reach their target. Truck mounted rocket launchers are a hallmark of ISIS-K attacks in Kabul.
The rockets exploded mid air and apparently rained shrapnel down on nearby neighborhoods
Can people fill me in on the whole Tim Kennedy situation I am too lazy to look into it rn
As far as the rocket fire, some chatter about people being injured from shrapnel falling, but no deaths at the moment. Just appears to be a failed attempt to attack the airport from a distance.
2021: Taliban getting hoist qualified before you do.
Also first time in my life that I ever thought I would need to call something the “Taliban Air Force”
UK MoD has stated that up to 1100 eligible Afghans and 150 British nationals were left in Afghanistan after the British military finished its evacuation mission on Saturday. “Some” were said to have stayed willingly, but what percentage is unknown. The term “staying willingly” has been highly criticized as some of those “willingly” staying behind are only doing so to be with their family members who were not eligible to leave.
Last American plane out of HKIA. It’s officially over.
