re: The Brown University shooting
Something is troubling me, knowing just how much data any decently sized college/university has. This comes from my knowledge while working at a major university.
Every student, faculty, staff has a unique login to access classes, HR/Payroll, other administrative services. This unique ID is tied to every electronic device that the individual uses on (and via eduroam, off) campus. From smart phones, laptops, tablets, IoT devices.
Every device that connects to the universities wireless network is logged with the unique ID, MAC address, EID, and IMEI numbers. ALL of them. Wifi devices are 'sluts' in that if wifi network access is on, the device will ping with ANY wireless access point.
Why is this important? I know from my work that we can track every single device, and as the individual is walking thru campus, entering and exiting buildings, along with what floor they were on, which room they have been in. It is ALL tracked.
Video/photos of who is in the area when the university has 1 camera for every 8-10 Students, can easily be confirmed with the digital bread crumbs left by the wireless device.
In my ever so humble opinion, Brown University knows exactly who was in the room where the two students were killed. The digital trail left by the smartphone, smartwatch, etc is all there.
