The Iranian Regime doesn’t have the capability to seriously threaten the safety of a US Navy Aircraft Carrier. Much less TWO of them. If the Regime *attempted* to strike at a carrier, it would invite a hellstorm in return that Iran is ill-prepared to absorb, without accomplishing anything. Look at these threats through the lens of macho bravado; the Iranians are afraid of looking weak right now. That is the most dangerous thing for them: for external & internal enemies to perceive weakness of the Regime. That would start an uprising & they may not have the ability to truly stop it— especially if American & Israeli bombs start falling.
But mark my words: there is no weapon in the Iranian arsenal that can get close enough to a US Navy Aircraft Carrier & past her escorts to harm a carrier, much less sink her.
The USS Forrestal & USS Enterprise had catastrophic accidents on deck arming planes for massive airstrikes during the Vietnam war & while badly damaged those ships did not sink.
But mark my words: there is no weapon in the Iranian arsenal that can get close enough to a US Navy Aircraft Carrier & past her escorts to harm a carrier, much less sink her.

Let me express it this way: between the E-2D AWACS coverage above the fleet & the AEGIS radar & SAM coverage, draw a 1,000 mile wide circle around the carrier: nothing in that space exists without the US Navy knowing its there.
And between the combat air patrol of fighters & the Surface to Air Missile coverage, nothing exists in that circle without the Navy’s explicit permission. Including drones, & ballistic missiles. Submarines are harder to defend against but her escorts are made for that job too & they as well as the carrier have Seahawk helicopters to prosecute & kill submarines. And a carrier battle group NEVER deploys to combat without our own nuclear powered fast attack submarines with the group.
Khamenei isn’t even really aware of just how overmatched Iran is against even a single carrier strike group, especially supported by land bases fighter bombers & AWACS in the region.

Why did Adolph Hitler believe he could take all of Europe & starve & bomb Britain into surrender? Because his favorite sycophant, Herman Goering told him he could accomplish it. He wasn’t credible & the effort failed spectacularly (Battle of Britain) but Hitler believed Goering because it was what he wanted to hear & Goering’s arrogance & desire for influence led to it. Why did Hitler think that he could invade the Soviet Union & fight the allies on the western front even as they were losing in the Atlantic & Britain was becoming the largest aircraft carrier in history & staging point for an invasion Army that Germany didn’t have the manpower to repel?
