Apple is not a perfect company, but given the choice between Android & iOS- I would strongly urge people to rid themselves of Android phones. Linux only pertains to the OS kernel; by itself, it is not a corporation, but rather a community based initiative. Android, the OS heavily developed and sponsored by Google, only shares that OS kernel in common with other Linux based systems. Beyond that, the rest of the Android system is mostly closed source and proprietary to Google (Google mobile services). In addition, most Android phones ship with only proprietary software and the phone requires serious tweaking (and jailbreaking) to get to what little "open source" there is available on Android. Google in this capacity has committed many cardinal sins in the GNU/Linux community, to which they'll just try to reel you in with something "free" to make up for it.
