The Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Justice also found that the Los Angeles FBI office failed to take steps to prevent Nassar from harming others.

In a written response issued after the report was released, the FBI said:

“As the Inspector General made clear in today’s report, this should not have happened. The FBI will never lose sight of the harm that Nassar’s abuse caused."

The inspector general's investigation began in 2018, following an internal FBI review of the delay before agents opened a formal investigation into the complaints raised in June 2015 by elite-level gymnasts, including Aly Raisman and Maggie Nichols.

Nassar was ultimately charged and convicted of child sexual abuse in Michigan state court.

The Indianapolis FBI office "did not formally document any of its investigative activity, including its July meeting with USA Gymnastics and its September 2 telephonic interview of one of the victim gymnasts. The office also did not formally open an investigation or assessment."

The IG notes this chilling detail: in the time between the FBI first being told of the allegations and his later arrest by local police, "70 or more young athletes were allegedly sexually abused by Nassar under the guise of medical treatment", per court claims

On the left we have a registration trend. From 2016-20, 94 of 100 counties became more Republican in registration percentage than they were in 2016, when Trump won by 3.7%. The darker shades are 4% or more for the party indicated.

On the right - not RESULTS, but TREND in the election. 51 of 100 counties were more democrat than in 2016 (indicated by blue). The map on the right should look nearly identical to the one on the left, meaning almost every county should have voted more Republican, just as NC has matched registration trend for decades.
