Reporters are under ZERO obligation to cover a story if THEY DON’T FEEL THEY SHOULD. It starts and ends there. There are any number of reasons why they may choose to do so. They may feel they can’t put aside a bias, or they may run it down for days and it turns out to be nothing. They may know things about the source that make covering the story irresponsible. There are a gazillion reasons. Journalists (who do it RIGHT) have a massive responsibility and they don’t take it lightly (clears throat)
