My friend sent me this question—could you help?: “A science question for you. I read a New Yorker article all about geothermal energy. (Seems cool!) It seemed to take for granted that steam from magma at the core of the earth is an unlimited resource. But that can’t possibly be true right? What makes it so hot and powerful? Is it getting ever so slightly cooler? Won’t we eventually cause some externalities if we bore lots more holes hundreds of meters into the core of the earth and let the steam out??”
