The Taino were an Arawak people who were the indigenous people of the Caribbean and Florida. At the time of European contact in the late 15th century, they were the principal inhabitants of most of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti), and Puerto Rico.

Almost wiped out in Jamaica, I have a friend who is part Taino/Jamaican and he was only told this as an adult. He never heard of Taino and never learned about them in school. It was kept quiet, especially in the past so not to attract unwanted attention. Why keep this a secret and act like slaves were the first there, Maybe they had knowledge about our past. What do you think?.
