China's central bank moved to rein in the fast-rising yuan on Friday, scrapping risk reserves requirements for forex forward contracts in a move that would encourage dollar buying as exporters start to feel the pinch from a stronger currency. The decision came after the yuan hit a near three-year high against the dollar on Thursday. China's currency is up more than 7% on the dollar since last April. The People's Bank of China (PBOC) said it would remove the reserve requirement of 20% on forex forward contracts from March 2, vowing to maintain the yuan's exchange rate at a "reasonable and balanced level." Net forex inflows totaled $79.9 billion in January, the third biggest in history. Beijing Ultrapower Software Co blamed yuan strength for contributing to its 28% plunge in 2025 profit, while Suzhou Junchuang Auto Technoloies said the yuan's strength contributed to its 31% slump in 2025 profit.

In 2011, shortly after commissioning and during deployment, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) suffered major outages where all 423 toilets went down at once (multiple times). Sailors reported urinating in showers, sinks, or bottles (dumping over the side), and some female crew held it so long it caused health issues. The narrow pipes and vacuum setup clogged easily, leading to backups and morale hits.
The Navy blamed improper use/flushing, but the design was undersized for heavy warship usage and crew size.
These issues carried over (and got worse) on the Ford-class (starting with USS Gerald R. Ford), which uses an even more complex version of the same vacuum system. Frequent clogs from calcium buildup, improper items (T-shirts, ropes, etc.), and loose valves knock out entire zones, requiring expensive acid flushes (~$400k each) and constant maintenance.
