In 2011, shortly after commissioning and during deployment, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) suffered major outages where all 423 toilets went down at once (multiple times). Sailors reported urinating in showers, sinks, or bottles (dumping over the side), and some female crew held it so long it caused health issues. The narrow pipes and vacuum setup clogged easily, leading to backups and morale hits.
The Navy blamed improper use/flushing, but the design was undersized for heavy warship usage and crew size.
These issues carried over (and got worse) on the Ford-class (starting with USS Gerald R. Ford), which uses an even more complex version of the same vacuum system. Frequent clogs from calcium buildup, improper items (T-shirts, ropes, etc.), and loose valves knock out entire zones, requiring expensive acid flushes (~$400k each) and constant maintenance.

As Washington seeks unrestricted AI use for war and surveillance, Donald Trump directed all US federal agencies to immediately cease using technology from AI developer Anthropic, escalating a standoff with the company over restrictions on its models' military and surveillance applications.
Trump specified a six-month phase-out period for the Department of War and other agencies reliant on Anthropic's products, including its Claude AI models.
The order follows the Pentagon's designation of Anthropic as a "supply-chain risk to national security," announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The clash apparently stems from Anthropic's insistence on guardrails prohibiting its AI for mass domestic surveillance of Americans and for fully autonomous lethal weapons systems, where AI would make final targeting decisions without human oversight.
Banning Anthropic makes room for competitors willing to accommodate the most dystopic applications of AI.

Israel has targeted 30 locations across Iran, including the Supreme Leader's residence and the intelligence headquarters, according to reports.
The sound of fighter jets can also be heard in many areas in the northeast and east of the city.
Israeli airspace has been closed, and a nationwide state of emergency has been declared amid concerns of potential Iranian drone and missile retaliation.
Israeli officials estimate that Tehran is likely to hold off on its response until at least tonight.
