I came to see a truth America was never taught plainly: the greatest threat to a republic is not the abuse of power, but the abandonment of responsibility. Freedom does not disappear when leaders grow strong it fades when citizens grow passive and expect democracy to function without their constant attention.
What is happening now is not new. When people trade vigilance for comfort and truth for reassurance, self-government weakens without a single vote being cast. A nation cannot remain free when its citizens demand protection from ideas instead of discipline in thinking.
America was founded on the radical belief that ordinary people could govern themselves but only if they remained informed, engaged, and morally awake. No Constitution, no court, no leader can save a people who surrender that duty.
