BRITISH STEEL EXPOSES NET ZERO
MP's EMERGENCY DEBATE TODAY
Negotiations between ministers and Jingye Group, the Chinese company that bought British Steel five years ago, have failed to reach a deal to keep the two blast furnaces at Scunthorpe in operation. The imminent closure of the plant has forced the Government’s hand, because the loss of Britain’s last steel manufacturer would leave us exposed in a dangerous world.
Parliament has sat on only six occasions on a Saturday since the Second World War and was last recalled from recess in 1982 after the invasion of the Falklands. This illustrates the gravity of what is facing British industry with Saturday's recall to discuss the nationalisation of British Steel. The move is an unfortunate necessity. This newspaper has almost always opposed taking businesses of any kind into public ownership. The state is an industrial custodian of last resort, peculiarly unsuited to the commercial sphere. But there are rare exceptions and steel is one of them.

Around 15,000 people left the military in the year to October, 7,778 of which were declared “voluntary outflow” - meaning they left the Armed Forces of their own accord.
During this period, the military shrunk, with only 12,000 joining.
Moreover, as of October 2024, there just are just two servicemen and women for everything thousand people in Britain, the first time this has ever happened.

WHO WAS RUNNING THE INFAMOUS “NIGHTINGALE HOSPITALS”?
Nightingale facilities include hospitals at London's ExCel, Birmingham's NEC, and a hospital at Manchester Central Convention Complex, formerly known as the GMEX, opened after being set up with the help of military personnel.
The British Army also helped convert Glasgow's SEC Centre into a temporary NHS hospital and to build a field hospital at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Army veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised more than £32m for NHS Charities Together, officially opened NHS Yorkshire and The Humber via video link, while the Earl of Wessex opened NHS Nightingale Hospital Bristol.
Royal Engineers were praised for their work in helping to construct NHS Nightingale Hospital Exeter.
