TIL hermit crabs create 'vacancy chains' when they need a new shell. When a crab finds a shell that is too big, it will wait. New crabs who are also too small will wait with the others (organized from smallest to largest) until the "Goldilocks" crab arrives, at which point they all swap shells.

TIL that Nike had conditions before giving rookie Michael Jordan a record contract: Either be rookie of the year, or average 20 ppg, or be an all star, or sell $4 mill worth shoes in a year. Jordan was rookie of the year, scored 28.2 ppg, named all star, and Nike sold $100 mill of shoes in 1984-85.

TIL about Eugene Shoemaker. He was a geologist in the mid 1900's who wanted to go to the moon. He failed the medical exam to go to the moon, but he still helped train astronauts on Apollo 11,12, 13. After dying in a car crash his ashes made it to the moon. To this day they're still there.

TIL In the middle ages, some people used to "clip" coins, Coins in medieval Europe were based on gold or silver. The purpose of clipping was to remove slivers of this material from the edge of the coin. Do this enough times and you have enough for a new coin, if caught punishment was death.

TIL in 2013, a wild male tiger walked right up to a tiger enclosure at a zoo in India. Attracted by a captive female, the zookeepers let him in through a door in the enclosure. He stayed for a month, then escaped by jumping the fence, then returned a few weeks later.
