TIL the largest marine evacuation in recorded history occurred on 9/11. Over 100 boats, owned by the Coast Guard, companies, and civilians, rescued approximately 500,000 from Lower Manhattan within 9 hours. Due to transit shut downs, these people would've otherwise been stranded.

Today I learned that humans are the only animals that can blush and perhaps the only animal that can feel embarrassment. Blushing appears to be a unique human expression 'the most peculiar and most human of all expressions' which happens when blood vessels in the face dilate when embarrassed.
