TIL the term "port" to refer to a ship's lefthand side was for centuries much less common than the term "larboard", which only fell out of favor in the mid-1800s once the British Navy ordered its usage abandoned due to sounding too similar to "starboard".

TIL in 1996, some characters were changed on the children's literacy program "The Letter People". Instead of vowels being all female characters and consonants being all male characters, a change was made to make half the letters male and half of them female. Junk food references were also replaced.
