TIL Donkeys are used to fend off coyotes and other predators, are very smart, and typically become the alpha in a team of horses. They have a great sense of fight or flight and other horses will gauge their reaction by watching the donkey’s behavior.

TIL The CIA had (or has) a "Heart Attack Gun". The gun would shoot a dissolving dart that would cause what appeared to be a natural heart attack. The dart would only leave a small red dot and the poison would denature so quickly, it would unlikely be discovered in autopsy.

TIL that tomato sauce is not Italian at all but Mexican. The first tomato sauces were already being sold in the markets of Tenochtitlan when Spaniards arrived, and had many of the same ingredients (tomatoes, bell peppers, chilies) that would later define Italian tomato pasta sauces 200 years later.

TIL of “telling the bees”, a European custom in which bees would be told of important events in their keeper’s lives, such as births or marriages. If the custom was forgotten then it was believed the bees would leave the hive or stop producing honey.
