TIL 'The Matrix' Wanted Sandra Bullock as 'Neo' before Keanu Reeves took the role. The producers had such a hard time finding the right man for the role that they briefly considered changing Neo into a female character. She was also considered for the part of Trinity and regretted not taking it.

TIL that Winston Groom, the author of "Forrest Gump" the source for the titular movie, was contracted to earn 3% share of the profits. The film made about $678 million on the budget of $55 million, but Paramount did not pay Groom, using Hollywood accounting to posit that the film indeed lost money.

TIL that James Cameron altered just one scene of the night sky when Rose is on the raft because according to Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, the star field Rose sees wasn't accurate for the time and place. Cameron asked him for the correct one and changed it for the Titanic re-release in 2012.

TIL in 1942 the BBC issued an appeal for postcards and photographs of the coast of Europe from Norway to the Pyrenees. It was actually an intelligence gathering exercise, they were sent to the War Office to help determine a suitable location (Normandy) for the eventual D-Day landings of 1944.
