TIL that FDR likely did not have polio as is commonly believed. A retrospective analysis conducted in 2003 claimed that there was a 99% chance FDR had Guillain-Barré syndrome instead, which has similar symptoms but was unknown in America at the time.

TIL in 2001, on a flight to Kenya, the pilot passed out at the controls of his private plane, Rowan Atkinson took control of the Cessna 202 aircraft - saving the lives of his wife and two children. The pilot eventually came to, after several slaps by Atkinson, and managed to land the plane safely

TIL a Great Pyrenees dog named Duke was the mayor of Cormorant Village, Minnesota, for four years, having been elected four terms in a row. He retired in 2018 due to falling health. He passed away in early 2019 at the age of 13.

TIL of Wally Funk, who became an aviator at 20, and in 1961 volunteered to be part of the Women in Space program. She scored higher on tests than future astronaut John Glenn. The program was cancelled. Today, at 86, she continues to fly, and has a ticket to fly into space with Virgin Galactic.

TIL that the drink mix Tang wasn't created by or for NASA. It was introduced in 1957 but sold poorly until the U.S. space agency used it for John Glenn's 1962 Mercury mission. Tang was then marketed as what the astronauts drank, but Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin later said, "Tang sucks."
