TIL 10 Downing Street in the 19th Century was guarded by two men who would sit outside the building in leather chairs, armed with a pistol. Each chair featured a drawer filled with hot coals to keep the guards warm, and a sphere-shaped hood to protect from the weather and improve acoustics.

TIL that when a town bully & criminal kept getting away with his crimes, the town took matters into their own hands. He was shot dead in front of 40+ people but everybody claimed they saw nothing. Nobody was ever charged.

TIL The International Potato Center has successfully grown potatoes in a simulated Mars environment. They grew the plants in a CubeSat which mimicked the Martian air pressure and atmosphere, and used saline desert soils analogous to Martian soils as the growing medium.

TIL A study concluded that when humans forbid dogs to eat foods, dogs are 4 times more likely to steal the food in the dark, when they think humans can’t spot them. Dogs based their stealing strategies on their belief that humans can see or not in low light conditions.
