Til After Nike released Air Jordan sneakers in 1985, the NBA banned Michael Jordan from wearing them because it's colours didn't match his team's uniform. Nike supposedly paid the fine of $5000 the NBA charged Jordan each game so he would continue wearing them.

TIL about Adrian Carton de Wiart, a British soldier. He fought in 3 wars and was shot in the head, face, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear, survived 2 plane crashes, escaped a POW camp and tore off his own fingers when a doctor refused to amputate them. He lived to be 83.

TIL that in 1970, a pilot engaging in mock combat in an F-106 lost control in a dive, ejected, and then the plane righted itself, continued to fly, landed softly in a snowy field, then was later recovered with minimal damage and returned to service.

TIL between 1970 and 1973, four Israeli fighter pilots translated The Hobbit from English to Hebrew to pass the time in an Egyptian prison, where they were held as POWs. The pilots' translation was published commercially in 1977, and up until 2012 was considered the best Hebrew version of the book.

TIL that the desert planet of Tatootine in Star Wars was originally meant to be a jungle planet. One of the producers found sites in the Philippines, but thought director George Lucas would be "itchy" from all of the filming in the jungle, so Lucas decided to make Tatootine a desert planet.
