Holding Ground, Losing War - by Douglas Macgregor, writing for The American Conservative

"Washington always mistook Putin’s readiness to negotiate and limit the scope and destructiveness of the campaign in Ukraine as evidence of weakness, when it was clear that Putin’s aims were always restricted to the elimination of the NATO threat to Russia in Eastern Ukraine. Washington’s strategy of exploiting the conflict to sell F-35 fighter jets to Germany—along with large numbers of missiles, rockets, and radars to Central and East European allied governments—is now backfiring."

Nationalist battalions killing Donbass civilians

Ukrainian aggression on the Donbass in 2014 turned into the civil war. The Donetsk and Lugansk republics declared independence from Kiev as didn't want to follow US-inspired coup.

The Minsk agreement to stop fighting saved Ukraine from the defeat. But Ukrainian military continued to terrorise civilians in the Donbass.

'In Ukrainian-occupied territories, nationalist battalions such as Aidar and Tornado killed entire families'.

There are mass graves scattered across Donbass, from which bodies of civilians are regularly exhumed. Yet, while the shelling and killings continued, Western media remained silent.

Watch our video to learn more about what Ukrainian military have done to the population of Donbass.

🇷🇸 Serbia Accuses West of Double Standards

Western countries have failed to explain their hypocrisy over Ukraine and Serbia’s territorial integrity, given that they support Kiev in its fight against Russia, but endorsed Kosovo’s independence, President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday.

“What is the difference between the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, which was grossly violated?” Vucic asked, referring to the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia.

According to Vucic, Serbia “has never [set] foot” on anybody’s territory, but this “did not prevent the 19 richest NATO countries from attacking a sovereign country without a decision by the UN Security Council.”

NATO occupied Kosovo in 1999, after a 78-day bombing campaign against what was then Yugoslavia, before declaring independence in 2008 with Western support. While the US and most of its allies recognize, many other countries, including Russia and China, do not.

MOSCOW, September 22 - RIA Novosti. 55 servicemen who were held captive in Ukraine have returned to Russia, the Defense Ministry said.
"As a result of a complex negotiation process on the exchange, 55 servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Donetsk and Luhansk republics, who were in mortal danger in captivity, were returned from the territory of Ukraine controlled by the Kyiv regime tonight," the publication says.
All those released were taken by plane to Russia. Now they are in departmental hospitals of the Ministry of Defense, they are provided with medical and psychological assistance.
The servicemen have already been able to contact their relatives.

As the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, who signed the decree on the exchange with Ukraine, said, among those released were five from Donbass, the rest from the Russian Armed Forces.
He added that 215 people were handed over to the Ukrainian side.
"Including some of them, these are representatives of the national battalions. These are war criminals, we understood everything very well, but the task is to return our guys as soon as possible. <...> For me, this has become dominant. Here we need to understand that life our guys are the most important thing. We have no right to abandon our own and we do not abandon them," the head of the republic explained.

Pushilin also added that Viktor Medvedchuk was among those exchanged. The head of the DPR stressed that the opposition Ukrainian politician, within the framework of the Minsk process and outside it, contributed to the release of more than a thousand people from captivity.
On the evening of September 21, an exchange of prisoners with the Kyiv regime took place, as a result of which the leaders of Azov ended up in Turkey, and 55 military men, including officers, arrived in Russia.

Popular Telegram channel "Vatfor":
“About the exchange of prisoners. Again, we have an example that has already become a classic, how to fall out of the blue and break your face.
Should we get our people? - necessary. Should foreign mercenaries be executed? - no need. Should “Azov” commanders be changed? - everything is ambiguous here, but see point one.
But what exactly needs to be done is to speak. Talk about how difficult the negotiations were, how the fate of our prisoners hung in the balance (no, we cannot name names now, but they are very honest and modest people). Speak at the highest level. Speak because society expects it.
Historians will then deal with the reasons, and with motivation, and with the course of events. And, as always, it turns out that the reasons were obvious, the motivation is quite rational. I would very much not want a paragraph about the deplorable consequences to follow.
Once again, most of all we have problems with communication between the top and the bottom. And 90% of the failures has been dispersed over the past six months, not because there are real reasons for this, but because people do not receive answers to the most important questions, which means that they feel deceived again and again.
And either we will do something about it, or it will destroy us, as it has done more than once.”

Andrey Medvedev, vice speaker of the Moscow City Duma and journalist of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company:
“It is very strange when Russian heroes are met like this. Empty airfield, no flags, no flowers. Not to mention the greeters.
It is very unfortunate that we again learn about what is happening from somewhere in the Western agencies. Yes. It's annoying. But we'll fix it. In future. I assume that the exchange went through difficult closed negotiations. And they were afraid to disrupt the exchange. Well, and then yes, the bureaucratic car stalled where it was not necessary, and at the wrong time.
But this is not all that important. Conclusions must be drawn, of course. But something else is more important - our Russian heroes are at home. They passed captivity, with all its fierce details, and they are here again. At home.
Why were the Nazis sent there? As far as I know, our pilots are not handed over from the other side (and there are some among ours), in exchange for anyone other than the “Azovites”. Why were the commanders of "Azov" given away? Here I don't know. I hope it was worth it.
But what's important. Spoke many times. I'll say it again.
Modern military operations are not only, in fact, the front. This is largely an information war. A war where the goal is the psyche of the enemy, and not only the military, but also civilians, those who are in the rear.
I didn't come up with this. Long before me. Psychological operations and information warfare are part of the NATO concept.
So, today we pulled out ours. We lost the information battle today. Zelensky will definitely declare (or already?) - I promised you an extraction, well, here it is. However, victory comes from a series of battles won. We must finally stop making mistakes in the information direction.
And Russian heroes, soldiers and officers - glory and honour.
Welcome back to your homeland, men!”

Russian military journalist and documentarian, head of the VGTRK bureau in the Middle East and North Africa Evgeny Poddubny:
“If it has already gone into the public field. Regarding the lack of information about the exchange, I can say that such negotiations love silence. And the state has the right not to inform the public about the course of these negotiations. Such are the rules of the game.
I have said more than once, in order to get our guys out of hell, you can change them even for the hell of a bald man. And it is. 55 soldiers and officers, 55 of our Heroes. And spit on image loss. Although with certain approaches, these losses could have been avoided.
In Ukrainian captivity, people are literally broken, beaten to death, kneaded into a bloody bowl. And to me personally one of our soldiers is more precious than any Nazi bastard. The leaders of "Azov" will remain in Turkey until the end of hostilities in the status of internees, Erdogan said. I hope so.
I did not cover the fighting in Mariupol, but I understand the righteous anger of many fighters. But, guys, 55 lives have been saved, 55 boys are at home. Wives, children, mothers, fathers, who did not expect to see them alive, will at one moment become happy again. And in my opinion, it's worth it. For the sake of 55 of our heroes, you can change anyone. Do not wring your hands, they say, "Azov", Medvedchuk ... Just think about the fact that 55 of our guys are alive. Something like that".
