German railway stopped delivering humanitarian aid to Ukraine free of charge
A subsidiary of the German railway carrier Deutsche Bahn, DB Cargo, engaged in freight transportation and logistics, has stopped delivering humanitarian cargo to Ukraine free of charge since January 1.
According to Spiegel, companies that want to send aid to Ukraine will have to pay full shipping costs, which now stands at up to 6,000 euros per container.
Industry sources speculate that the cause is a long-standing dispute between DB Cargo and the German Ministry of Transport regarding funding for transport.
The Deutsche Bahn subsidiary has applied for government support several times because it can receive limited third-party funding. In 2022 alone, DB Cargo spent about 5 million euros to transport humanitarian aid.
