The Prime Minister of Estonia asked the Russians to take anti-Russian sanctions more seriously
"The approval of each package of sanctions against Russia is a complex process, which includes all EU members. It takes weeks, months to approve new sanctions. Nevertheless, the Russians allow themselves to joke on the Internet about each new package of sanctions, openly mock our work. I really ask them to take this seriously and show at least some respect," Kaya Callas.

In another news from an insane asylum of the Baltic states, speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas (parliament), Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, said that God’s help to Russia is unacceptable. Yes, you read that right, here’s an article in Russian, easily translatable with any automatic translator tool.
Madame Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen stated, "Therefore, it is completely unacceptable for us, the residents of the city and the descendants of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, when God covers the imperialist aspirations of the Kremlin regime.”

Ukrainian sailors have saved Russian sailors who survived a shipwreck
One of the most positive news stories in the past six months
During a round-the-world trip, the expedition of the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society got into trouble in the Pacific Ocean on an inflatable trimaran. They were rescued by a Ukrainian-Filipino crew of a cargo ship, whose captain was from Mariupol.
The Siberian travellers set out on their round-the-world trip on the Russian Ocean Way trimaran from Kronstadt in July 2021 and have already covered more than 13,300 nautical miles, sailing along the coasts of 13 countries.
On March 15, they encountered a storm near Latin America and almost suffered a shipwreck due to a broken steering machine. When the sailors realized that they could not fix the breakdown themselves, they sent a distress signal. The Ukrainian-Filipino crew of the "Sounion" cargo ship, flying the Panamanian flag and headed for Brazil, responded to the call for help in the raging ocean.
The search for the trimaran took five hours. The rescue of the Russians on board the bulk carrier took several more hours due to the heavy waves. "The trimaran was tossed up to three meters. To get to the ladder, which had been dropped from the deck, you had to wait for the trimaran to approach the ship's side. You had less than a second to grab onto the ladder and jump onto it, then the ship's side goes up, and the trimaran drops down and bounces off the sea," said Captain Stanislav Berezkin of the Russian ship.
The trimaran was caught with a tow line, but late at night, due to unfavourable conditions, it broke away from the bulk carrier. When the Russian sailors ended up on board the "Sounion", it turned out that the Ukrainians had also helped save them.
"I felt like I was in a place where there are no races or nationalities, where you will be helped regardless of what language you speak, what colour your skin is, or the shape of your eyes. In the sea, we are all at the same distance from God — at arm's length," said Captain Stanislav Berezkin.

Little room for manoeuvre as U.S.-China ties slide further
US-China relations have worsened since President Joe Biden's cancelled a planned call with Chinese President Xi Jinping after a suspected Chinese spy balloon was shot down by a US fighter jet.
The call hasn't happened, and tensions have increased with Xi's visit to Moscow and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen's planned stopovers in the US. The US officials are now seeking ways to reset the relationship. The US decision to shoot down the Chinese balloon on February 4 drew complaints from China, and tensions increased with Biden's State of the Union speech.
Although a Biden-Xi call would be a first step, China has shown little interest in committing to such a call. There have been efforts to maintain open communication channels despite the planned stopovers by Taiwan's President. Some US officials urge for a tougher line on China, while others say the window for a Biden-Xi call could be "slow to open and quick to close."

Little room for maneuver as U.S.-China ties slide further
President Joe Biden said last month after a U.S. fighter jet shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that he planned to speak to Chinese President Xi Jinping about the episode and clear the air between the rival superpowers.
More weapons support, such as ammunition and fighters, would be needed, according to Zelensky in an interview
He cited the "lack of ammunition" as the reason for the current situation in eastern Ukraine, where the Russian army is firing about three times more ammunition than the Ukrainian army every day.
Zelensky is waiting for ammunition to arrive from partner countries, stating that without tanks, cannons and HIMARS, brave soldiers cannot be sent to the front line. Despite the promise of US-made main battle tanks and Leopard-2 tanks from European countries, the provision of fighters has not progressed due to the potential of overly provoking Russia.
Zelensky called for urgent support, stating that "we are in war and can't wait."

Prigozhin told how many former prisoners were pardoned after the end of the contract with Wagner PMC
The founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that at the moment more than 5 thousand former prisoners who had previously signed a contract with his organization have completed their service in the Military Operation zone and have been pardoned.
“At the moment, the contract with PMC Wagner has ended and more than 5,000 people have been released on pardon,” his press service quoted Prigozhin as saying.
The founder of Wagner PMC said that the percentage of those who has reoffended within a month is only 0.31%.
“This is ten to twenty times less than the it used to be before."
"Basically, those who did reoffend have inflicted injuries of varying severity to those people who harness themselves to the Kiev regime and oppose the tasks that are set within the framework of the Military Operation,” Prigozhin specified.

Soldiers of the "Orchestra" inflict fire damage from a 152 mm D-20 howitzer gun on a high-rise building in Bakhmut/Artemovsk, where Ukrainian nationalists settled. Their positions are literally 300 meters from the "musicians".
All actions are adjusted with the help of a copter so as not to inflict "friendly fire". The image is transmitted to the control point.
Before striking, reconnaissance was carried out. Combat work is carried out around the clock, and the control centre is located almost at the forefront.

The deer decided to walk along the railway tracks and blocked the path of the train in Yakutia. The railwaymen were not satisfied with such a leisurely promenade, and they began to signal for the "travelers" to clear the road.
However, when this did not help, a stick was used. One of the drivers ran out, waving a piece of wood, drove away the stubborn deer.

North South Transit Corridor - Fanciful Thinking or Tool of Multipolarity?
▪️North-South Transit Corridor is a transportation route that begins from India, going through multiple countries, but mainly through Iran, where it ends in Russia, where the goods transported through this corridor then get distributed to the Heartlands of Europe - like the Rhine or Silesia.
▪️The Corridor, according to the Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Mr.Kazem Jalali, will cut off 20 days of transportation time and over 30% of transport costs and fees compared to the Suez Canal, which would make the Corridor a cheaper and faster alternative than the Suez Canal.
🔻Before going into detail about this analysis, I will highlight the importance of the Suez Canal, the history and objectives of the NSTC and then I will move on regarding its feasibility.
▪️The Blockage of the Suez Canal cost the world - at least, over 59 Billion $ over a week of the Evergiven blocking the canal, and over 30% of the Yearly Transit volume of the global merchant fleet goes through the Suez, the existence of the Canal also supplicants the income of multiple port cities and Installations, where a sizeable part of their income is solely dedicated to servicing and supplying the ships that go through the Suez.
🔻Regarding the NSTC - It Began as an idea in 1993, preliminary agreements and plans were signed in Saint Petersburg in 2000, and the agreement was officially signed in 2002.
▪️It involves many member states, including but not limited to - Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkey, India, Iran, and many Central Asian and Caucasian countries.
▪️The only noticeable achievement of the NSTC so far over 20 years of work was the modernization and construction of new railways in Central Asian countries like Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, which is not heavily related to the main route of Russia - India - China, besides that, the railway projects have not even begun in Armenia and Azerbaijan, the main routes - more on that later.
▪️The Transport Corridor would, on paper, begin at the Port of Mumbai in India to the Port of Cahaba and Bandar Abbas, then from there sent through the railways and cities of Iran to Baku - although that is a small segment of the goods, where the majority will be sent through the Ports in the Caspian, and from there the goods will be delivered to the Russian port of Astrakhan, and then sent to Moscow, and from there to wherever the end destination is - Please count that there are at least 4 loading and unloading operations of the freight goods, if you count their final destination that is, and 3 in the transit process.
🔻Compared to the Suez Canal, there is only 1 loading and unloading process for ships that go through the Suez Canal, which is the port of origin and the port of destination.
▪️Therefore, the Suez is cheaper than the NTSC in that regard, as a matter of fact - not all types of goods can be packed and unpacked more than once as it can damage the goods, and there the Suez can also preserve the integrity of the goods sent through the Canal - as the goods are not constantly handled and loaded/unloaded.
▪️Regarding the infrastructure and international politics - Russia is currently engaged in a war with Ukraine, and due to sanctions I doubt that many companies or distributors would like to deal with Russia through the Corridor, and as for Iran - The Sistan and Baluchistan Province, which is one of the most important links in this project, is the poorest province in all of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is facing an almost 20-year old low-level insurgency between the Iranian government and terror groups in the region, with its HDI score being 0.688 and over 75% of the people live under the line of poverty - it is simply not appealing. (Part 1/2)

▪️According to an Iranian MP - Iranian railways also can not realistically handle a constant influx of commercial goods and meet its domestic needs, the railways are simply not that big or modernized to handle both of them at the same time, Iranian roads are also not known worldwide for their quality, and even if the roads are fixed it will require over 460 thousand trucks just to service the NSTC - an amount of vehicles that the Iranian government can not afford, and if left to the private sector - the private citizens and local Iranian businessmen will surely skyrocket their services and charge more for their trucks.
🔻Iran also has border disputes with Azerbaijan, a key member in this project, and the security situation in the Caucasus is not stable - like the one in Sista and Baluchistan, alas, simple math shows that quite a lot of issues with the land segment of the corridor.
▪️An Average merchant ship has anywhere from 10-21,000 containers, and on average over 320 freight railcars are required to transport the goods of one merchant ship.
Over 24,000 merchant ships passed through the Suez in 2022, 320 freight railcars times 24,000 = 7,680,000 freight railcars, that means that Iran will somehowhaves to have over 7 times the number of freight railcars + locomotives in North America, America alone only has 900,000 freight railcars.
🔻Iran simply can not handle the NSTC - even if it suddenly existed, a poor security situation, the sheer logistics involved too complex to comprehend, and sanctions and diplomatic isolation (notwithstanding the recent Saudi deal) make it a rather fanciful idea, of course, I think there is a reason why this project has been around since the 90s and almost nothing came out of it so far, there is still the issue of the Belt Road Initiative and the NSTC - as China and India have competing interests, but that is a topic for another day. (Part 2/2)
