Have old, smelly, rusty glass Mason jars? Don't know how to clean them and get them canning-ready? It's easy!! Soak in hot, soapy Dawn dish soap water. Add a couple of tablespoons of bleach (if jars are really nasty or old). Soak for 1 hour. Scrub jar mouths with steel pad and inside jar with scrubber. Run in dishwasher. Viola!
It wasn't meant to be like this...
Enjoy the small things! 🌹🦋
It's bueberry picking time!! A favorite summer activity for kids 😄 have you gone blueberry picking yet?!
Rosemary is supposed to help with hair loss associated with thyroid issues. Has anyone ever used rosemary or its oil for hair loss and had success? Please share!
Supported some local farmers and a crafter at the local farmers market by my house today. Feels good to shop local! Excited to try these fresh pasture raised chicken thighs and purple heirloom beans that are supposed to have good flavor. Has anyone ever tried them before?

10 ways to love

We love these galvanized metal/wood raised garden beds! Have any of you ever made these yourselves? Watch a few DIY videos, it's pretty easy!!

With the price of wood being so expensive right now, look into options that use a minimal amount of wood like this just for framing. A big sheet of tin roofing like this is about $15-$20! You can create a two foot deep bed by filling the bottom with cardboard, then less expensive soil over it and the top with higher quality soil to save money. That makes it convenient to harvest your food without strenuous bending and stretching. Also, the look is awesome! Cheap, easy to make and beautiful farmhouse aesthetics 😎

Another really cool galvanized/wood raised bed. Look how much food you could grow in here! 😎

I highly encourage all Christian Moms and Dads, even if you're not Orthodox, to read the lives of the Saints to your children. They provide a wonderous example of how to live a pious and God centered life. The Saints' struggles and plights tend to make ours seem trivial by comparison. Yet the strength of the Saints do not waver for they put their full faith and trust in the Lord. There are even 20th century Saints who help show us how to live a holy life even in the face of the modern world.

Passionflower is blooming. One of the most intricate flowers I've ever seen.

This is one of my favorite flowers as it always blooms in August, just as summer is hinting at cooling down.

I like to dry these for tea and/or tincture them in vodka to be used medicinally for stress relief, anxiety or insomnia.

To make a tincture using the folk method, chop the fresh herb material very finely and submerge in vodka in a glass jar using a 1:2 ratio.

It is very important to shake the jar vigorously at least twice a day. After a minimum of two weeks the tincture is done. Strain & press out the plant material & reserve the medicinal alcohol in a glass jar or bottle.

Tinctures have a shelf life of up to 10 years.

The MOST important thing to consider when making a high quality herb tincture is *using FRESH herb material*.

It is very important to make the mixture as soon as possible (ideally within minutes) after harvesting.

This truly captures & preserves the vitality of the medicinal qualities of the plant.

Imagine an OBGYN looking you dead in the eye and telling you, a pregnant woman, that you shouldn’t eat sushi, but this experimental gene therapy with no long term studies and proven hormone disrupting side affects is “recommended.”
