◾The 'Secession of the Plebeians' was a significant event in ancient Rome, particularly in the early Republic. It occurred when the plebeians, or working-class citizens, felt oppressed by the political and economic dominance of the patricians, the elite ruling class. In protest, the plebeians would abandon the city of Rome and withdraw to nearby hills, leaving the patricians without a workforce and military support. The secession was not only a protest but a strategic move to force the ruling class to address their grievances, which included high debt, lack of political representation, and unfair treatment.
