“NATO is a Cold War relic. We should withdraw from NATO and use that money to defend our own country, not socialist countries,” said Rep. Thomas Massie. “NATO was created to counter the Soviet Union, which collapsed over thirty years ago. Since then, U.S. participation has cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and continues to risk U.S. involvement in foreign wars. Our Constitution did not authorize permanent foreign entanglements, something our Founding Fathers explicitly warned us against. America should not be the world’s security blanket—especially when wealthy countries refuse to pay for their own defense.”

🇺🇲🇧🇷🇪🇺 The US has purchased the entire production of a rare earth mine in Brazil until 2030, covering what was already agreed with the EU

The EU Commissioner of Industry:

"Last month, I was supposed to go to Brazil to discuss a rare earth mine. 3 days before, we were told that the Americans had already come, put money on the table, and bought all production until 2030."

🇪🇺 Europe should prepare for war ‘like our grandparents endured’, warns NATO chief

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte delivered a stark warning that Europe must brace itself for the real possibility of a large‑scale conflict with Russia, invoking the scale of hardship endured by previous generations. Rutte said that recent drone incursions into NATO airspace and threatening rhetoric from Moscow demonstrate that “we are already in harm’s way” and that the continent cannot assume peace will hold by default.

He urged European nations to strengthen their collective defence and deterrence capabilities, stressing that strategic foresight and preparedness are essential to safeguard the continent. The remarks underline NATO’s belief that Russia remains the most acute security challenge to European stability, and that reliance on the status quo is a strategic liability.

Rutte’s comments are a reminder of the geopolitical pressures facing Europe amid ongoing tensions with Russia, calling on governments to prioritise defence readiness and unity. The address reinforces NATO’s message that deterrence must be underpinned by capability and resolve to protect freedom and stability in a rapidly evolving security environment.

🇭🇺 Hungary calls NATO chief’s Russia warning ‘reckless and dangerous’

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has sharply criticised NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for his recent warning that Russia could attack NATO within five years. Szijjártó called the remarks “reckless” and accused Rutte of stoking war tensions at a time when diplomatic efforts are underway.

Rutte’s statement—delivered at a Munich Security Conference event—described Russia as the alliance’s next target and called for increased defence spending across Europe. Hungary firmly rejected the claim, insisting that NATO alone, not Ukraine, guarantees the security of European states. Szijjártó also accused the NATO chief of undermining peace talks backed by U.S. President Donald Trump, saying Rutte’s remarks “stabbed peace negotiations in the back.”

Hungary’s response reflects its continued divergence from NATO and EU hardliners on the war in Ukraine. The government remains critical of military escalation and has positioned itself as a vocal opponent of policies that risk deeper involvement in the conflict.
