Jair Bolsonaro responded to the Supreme Court’s decision to put him on trial, calling it a political attack meant to keep him from running again.

“Brazil is facing one of its worst crises—not just economically, but democratically. Instead of fixing the collapsing economy, those in power want to lock me up so I can never run again.”
Comparing the move to Venezuela’s authoritarian tactics, Bolsonaro warned that Brazil’s democracy is being destroyed.

“They’re not defending democracy—they’re clinging to power at any cost. If I were allowed to run, I would win, and they know it.”

He called for a true democracy where leaders are chosen by the people, not eliminated by the courts.
