Clyburn blames polarization on 'the advent of social media'

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Sunday blamed "the advent of social media" for the level of polarization in the U.S.

“It's a little worse now and I think it's because of the advent of social media,” Clyburn, who first started serving in Congress in 1993, said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”

“People tend to try to answer everything in sound bites. And that can be very disconcerting. And so I think that that's what's caused the problem more than anything else,” he added.

Scrutiny of social media platforms, especially Facebook, has increased in recent weeks after a former employee of the tech giant spoke out against the company and shined a light on its practices.

The governor’s office released a surprising announcement on Oct. 29 canceling Newsom’s plans to attend the United Nations climate summit in Scotland to deal with unspecific family obligations.

The governor’s spokesperson said on Oct. 29 that Newsom planned to participate in the climate conference virtually, but a delegation schedule released later did not feature any virtual events with Newsom.

Newsom spokesperson Erin Mellon said on Thursday the governor will participate virtually in “a couple” of the climate summit events next week. The office did not respond to questions on Friday about what the governor has been doing this week.

China Builds Missile Targets Shaped Like U.S. Aircraft Carrier, Destroyers in Remote Desert

The Chinese military has built targets in the shape of an American aircraft carrier & other U.S. warships in the Taklamakan desert as part of a new target range complex, according to photos provided to USNI News by satellite imagery company Maxar.

The full-scale outline of a U.S. carrier & at least two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are part of the target range that has been built in the Ruoqiang region in central China. The site is near a former target range China used to test early versions of its so-called carrier killer DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missiles, according to reports in 2013.

This new range shows that China continues to focus on anti-carrier capabilities, with an emphasis on U.S. Navy warships. Unlike the Iranian Navy’s aircraft carrier-shaped target in the Persian Gulf, the new facility shows signs of a sophisticated instrumented target range.

Migrants Mysteriously Fly to Florida During the Night

Migrants from the southern border have been mysteriously landing in Jacksonville, FL during the night since the summer. Over 70 flights carrying an average of 36 passengers raised suspicion from local law enforcement. Happening at a time when the border crisis is raging, Gov. Ron DeSantis is determined to investigate the matter.

There are a multitude of questions that need to be answered. Who is responsible for sending the migrants? How extensive is this support network? Who is paying for them? Why are they being sent specifically to Jacksonville International Airport?

Night flights carrying migrants have also been reported by the NY Post appearing in Westchester, NY over the summer as well. When news of these flights originally came out, WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated that they were not occurring during the middle of the night, citing 2:30 am as part of the early morning hrs.

Hackers have breached organizations in defense and other sensitive sectors, security firm says

Suspected foreign hackers have breached nine organizations in the defense, energy, health care, technology and education sectors -- and at least one of those organizations is in the US, according to findings that security firm Palo Alto Networks shared exclusively with CNN.

It's the type of cyber espionage that security agencies in both the Biden and Trump administrations have aggressively sought to expose before it does too much damage. The goal in going public with the information is to warn other corporations that might be targeted and to burn the hackers' tools in the process.

Officials from the NSA and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are tracking the threat. A division of the NSA responsible for mitigating foreign cyber threats to the US defense industrial base contributed analysis to the Palo Alto Networks report.
