Airlines file emergency request asking FCC to delay 5G rollout

A top airlines trade group on Thursday filed an emergency request for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to delay the rollout of 5G wireless service, citing concerns that the technology could cause disruptions for flights.

The group, Airlines for America, represents cargo airlines and passenger airlines in the U.S. It requested that the agency delay the use of the service near airports such as George Bush Airport in Houston, John F. Kennedy in New York and Newark Liberty in New Jersey, according to Bloomberg News.

AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. were given authorization by the FCC earlier this year to deploy C-Band spectrum 5G wireless with a rollout scheduled for Jan. 5. The Federal Aviation Administration as well as CEOs of Boeing and Airbus Americas pushed back on the agreement, noting that 5G could cause potential flight diversions and delays.

Federal judge in Texas orders halt on Biden’s vaccine and mask mandates

Texas leaders on Friday scored a massive victory against the Biden administration’s mask and vaccine mandates after a judge in the US District Court - Northern District of Texas, Lubbock Division, ruled for a halt in the conditions for funding for Head Start programs, which is ostensibly designed to provide education-related services to low-income children.

Per the ruling, Texas leaders including Gov. Greg Abbott argue that the Act “does not authorise such mandates, that irreparable injury would result from them that the Department of Health and Human Services failed to comply with the Administrative Procedure Act in adopting the conditions, and that the mandates violate various Constitutional doctrines.”

State Dept warns Americans traveling abroad to 'make contingency plans'

The State Department warned on Thursday that Americans who are traveling abroad “should make contingency plans” as countries around the globe grapple with rising numbers of COVID-19 cases spurred by the omicron variant.

"U.S. citizens who do choose to travel internationally should make contingency plans, as they may have to remain in a foreign country longer than originally planned, which will be at their own expense," the department said in a media note.

The State Department also noted that for Americans ages 2 years and older coming back into the U.S. from international travel would need either proof of recovery from COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test taken within one day before they are set to return.

NY attorney general subpoenas Donald Trump, 2 eldest children

NEW YORK - New York Attorney General Letitia James recently subpoenaed former President Donald Trump and his two eldest children, demanding their testimony in connection with an ongoing civil investigation into the family’s business practices, according to a court filing made public Monday.

The subpoenas for Trump, his son, Donald Trump Jr., and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, stem from an investigation "into the valuation of properties owned or controlled" by Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, the filing said.

Messages seeking comment was left with lawyers for the Trumps and James' office.
