Fake PA Company Made $31M In Fake Ventilator Sales Amid Pandemic

A Nigerian man made more than $31M in a complex Pennsylvania-based fraud scheme where he offered non-existent medical ventilators for sale during the height of the pandemic.

Chidozie Collins Obasi, 29, remains wanted. He faces up to 631 years behind bars on numerous charges, including mail and wire fraud. Obasi also faces a $5.7 million fine and $31 million in restitution.

Obasi claimed to be a representative of an Indonesian medical supply company with a large stockpile of the machines. The state of New York wired $30 million for the ventilators, which were received by a man in Nigeria with no ventilators, authorities said.

In June 2020, Obasi expanded his scheme and used stolen identities of American citizens to obtain more than $1350,000 in EID loans, according to federal officials.

Rep. Gohmert Demands ‘Welfare Check’ of Jan. 6 Prisoners Following Assault and Lockdown at DC Jail

After the assault of several Jan. 6 prisoners and subsequent lockdown at the District of Columbia jail, United States Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) is demanding a welfare check on the inmates.

The perpetrator of the alleged assaults was Lt. Crystal Lancaster. She is the guard in charge of the solitary confinement area known as “The Hole” at the CTF.

One of the assaulted prisoners was Ryan Nichols. According to a habeas petition (pdf) filed with the United States District Court, District of Columbia by Nichols’s attorney, Joseph McBride, Lancaster “verbally and mentally abuses inmates.” Lancaster “also oversees officers and guards who do the same, and is suspected of bringing drugs into the prison.”
