Ransomware gangs hack hundreds of US infrastructure networks - FBI

The FBI has revealed that at least 649 crucial US infrastructure orgs have been breached by ransomware attacks last year and the real number could be much higher.

The ransomware attack figure only includes those that filed a complaint to the FBI - which include US Water and Wastewater Systems, the Food and Agriculture sector, U.S. Healthcare and First Responder networks, and even education institutions.

The FBI added that it "anticipates an increase in critical infrastructure victimization in 2022."

New huge arms shipment to Ukraine announced.

Berlin and Stockholm have promised a 7,000-strong shipment of anti-tank weaponry to Ukraine with Germany renouncing earlier commitments to pacifism in light of Russia’s military offensive.

Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said her country will send 5,000 anti-tank weapons to Ukraine, on top of 5,000 already provided – Linde calling it an “historic decision.”

However, it is unclear when and how the German and Swedish arms will be delivered to Ukraine. Russia has declared that it considers military supply convoys into the country “legitimate targets.”

Ukraine’s hacker ‘IT army’ to become ‘cyber ISIS’ – Moscow

An online army of 300,000 pro-Ukrainian cyber fighters - similar to terrorists backed by the US in Syria to fight against Damascus - will come back to hurt Western nations, claims the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Dubbed the so-called ‘cyber ISIS’, spox Maria Zakharova was describing the project announced by Ukraine's Digital Minister Aleksander Bornyakov - who called his plan the “world’s first IT army, with “almost 300,000 people” to “disrupt the work of [Russian] digital resources” and “fight propaganda."

Zakharova said the hackers were responsible for a recent attack on a German subsidiary of the Russian oil company Rosneft. The Anonymous hackers claimed they stole 20TB of data and forced the firm offline - potentially threatening output to areas of Germany.

“For some reason, German authorities temporarily forgot about the noble mission of the attackers and had the law enforcement actively look for them,” she remarked.

US risks recession if oil reaches $200 a barrel - Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs chief economist Jan Hatzius warned Washington that rising oil prices are going to send the US economy into a downward spiral.

He stated that “it would take a sustained oil price increase to $200 per barrel to produce an income shock similar in magnitude to those that precipitated the 1974 and 1979 recessions”, making 2022 recession a real possibility.

Brent crude prices have been steadily growing since the Ukrainian conflict took off, and Moscow has warned that Western sanctions could push the price all the way to $300 a barrel.
