UK food industry chronic worker shortage to drive prices higher, MPs warn

The double-whammy of pIandemic and Ukraine Russia conflict sanctions has resulted in a chronic workforce shortfall in the UK’s food sector and could force prices skyrocketing further, MPs have warned.

An environment and food committee also blamed the government’s refusal to expand seasonal work permit limits on the sector’s estimated 500,000 vacancies last August.

Crops have reportedly been left to rot and healthy animals slaughtered due to lack of workers at meat processing plants.
