The European Union approved a one-year extension of Covid certificates as cases begin to rise again ahead of the summer holiday season.

The European Council said the regulation may be lifted before June 2023 depending on conditions, but some governments are already rethinking their decisions to lift restrictions.

French health minister Brigitte Bourguignon this week advised people to wear masks indoors and on public transport.
