For the first time since the end of the 17th Century, there are now more Catholics than Protestants in the six counties.

New study on Medieval Anglo-Saxons:
In brief, they had ~75% ancestry from continental Northern and Western Europe, on average. You can see the ratios in the first image.
Modern English have 25-47% North European ancestry (originally from southern Scandinavia and northern Germany), and 13-43% West European ancestry (originally from France but included Germanic Franks). The remainder is of Celtic British origin.
