We know that he was chosen to run for President for many reasons, not the least of which would be his knowledge of these people and his connections.

Yemen Sentences Five to Death for 'UK Intel' ESPIONAGE! (Report)
Five people have been given the death sentence in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa... charged with spying for the British Secret Intelligence Service.
According to the outlet Saba, the court also handed another person jail time on Tuesday. The individuals were accused of being recruited and trained as spies in various parts of Yemen, and were reportedly given UK apparatus for advanced espionage and sabotage.
