FREEZING winter threatens to COMPOUND China energy crisis - Bloomberg

The US National Weather Service has predicted a “70-80%” chance of "La Nina" weather pattern bringing a colder than usual winter to China - which could compound the already worrying power crisis.

At least 20 provinces - accounting for about two-thirds of the country’s GDP - have experienced power cuts, but plummeting temperatures would place even greater strain on the network amid the country’s efforts to impose stricter environmental goals and the soaring coal & gas prices.

China’s power consumption is already up 16% this year through July compared to 2020, while restrictions on raising prices to consumers are forcing many factories to partially or fully close.

❗️JPMorgan plans for “POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC” US debt limit event (Reuters)

The US’ largest lender, JPMorgan, has begun preparations for what its CEO Jamie Dimon says could become another economic recession if the country reaches its debt limit, as fears of default gather pace.

“We should never even get this close. I just think this whole thing is mistaken and one day we should just have a bipartisan bill and get rid of the debt ceiling. It’s all politics," Dimon told Reuters.

While Congress squabbles over raising or suspending the debt limit - which has happened over 80 times since 1960 - the Democrats have said they will try to pass a government funding bill on by Thursday.

YouTube’s new directives indicate the video platform will take down any content deemed to spread misinformation about any vaccine officially declared effective by health authorities.

Several video channels associated with high-profile anti-vaccine activists including Joseph Mercola and Robert F. Kennedy Jr have also reportedly been taken down.

Around 130,000 Covid vaccine-skeptic videos had reportedly been removed, but many users evaded censorship by simply not specifying Covid. Scientific discussion and personal testimonies will still be permitted though.
