UDATE: Chicago, Illinois -- A gunman has surrendered after he barricaded himself in a building in Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood Saturday morning. Police said a Chicago police officer was during the chain of events. A second person of interest was also taken into custody in addition to the gunman. Police evacuated people in the area of the building where he was barricaded at at 207 N. LaCrosse Ave., and were clearing the scene with the plan to allow people back in around 2:30 p.m. Police recovered a handgun from the scene. Officers were responding to a call of shots fired in the area when someone from nearby began shooting at officers from a window. It is unclear if the gunman was involved in the initial shooting that led to the shots fired call. Supt. David Brown checked on the well-being of the injured officer from this morning’s shooting.
