The steam engine of the 1st century.

Heron of Alexandria was a scientist, engineer, mechanic, mathematician, and simple genius. He invented: vending machines for holy water, automatic doors for temples, a distance meter, a fire pump, fountains, and ... a steam engine.

The device was a cauldron of water, a fire was built underneath, water boiled, and steam gushed out to propel the device. Modern replicas made according to Geron's drawings were spun up to 3,500 rpm. The level of technology and scientific thought was such that official science was able to reach the steam engine anew only in the 19th century.

Do you guys know what existed in the Library at Alexandria? Do you know what was destroyed by the “Holy Roman Empire”?

At its height the Library housed over 5 million scrolls of wisdom and knowledge. It’s destruction in the 5th century ushered in the aptly named Dark Ages.
