The origins of the french word Noël.

Some etymologists say that this word could come from Latin Natalis Dies, which means “day of birth”. Others claim that the origins of Noël are Gallic. The term “Noël” would come from two Gallic words: Noio (new) and Hel (sun).

Once again we see the same foreign language pushed by the same foreign religion trying to slip in and take root in North European culture. If you ask me, the Gallic origin is the right one. I believe it to be older than the church’s appearance in Northern Europe as well as being phonetically accurate and culturally appropriate.
