This is actually in the aether.

Many of us were trained in our youth to believe that we would disrupt the peace by standing up for ourselves or setting limits on how much we are needed by others. We learned to let a lot go. It got easy for us to let things go.

We find pride in being "low maintenance" even though we know that borders often on being a push over.

But we are deserving and worthy of being treated well too. We are deserving of rest too. We are deserving of peace too.

That's just it....by learning to silence our own voice, we may have enabled an external peace - but that's because we gave away ours.

It's a balance, a dance - when to speak up or when to not..

Unless you're in a safe, loving relationship.

If someone loves you, they don't want to hurt you. They'd want you to let them know how they make you feel. They may not love knowing if they hurt you - but give them the opportunity to love you all the way. You'll be surprised at what you start to receive when you know you deserve it too.

I’ll never forget when I was having a real tough time with something a family member had done to me many years ago and my friend, who was also a psychologist, asked me, “So, how do you feel about that?”

I was dumbstruck. “How do I feel?? What does how I feel have to do with anything?”

I truly didn’t understand the question. Not only did I not know how to tune in to my feelings and couldn’t even describe what they were, I really had no idea that they mattered. Like…at ALL.

I’m not exaggerating here. I was that clueless. And I had been raised to stuff how I truly felt completely away. Locked down and hidden, even from myself.

So, Ash’s words above really touch my Heart bc she’s absolutely right. Enabling outer peace at the expense of the inner is just not worth the cost. It’s too high. And you are too precious to hurt yourself like that. Being disconnected from the Self is its own kind of hell.

Find the thread that connects to your feelings and see where it leads.
I’m betting you’ll find a lot of answers to issues you may have had for a very long time.
