Important bit of understanding about narcissists. They don’t fall in love with themselves. In fact, most actually loathe themselves.
They fall in love with their reflection.
The reflection they see in the mirrors all around them is what they become obsessed with.
How they appear is what matters. To others, yes, but most importantly to themselves.
It soothes their deep seated belief that they are not worthy. Not good enough. Very, very not OK.
The people they abuse are not actually people to them. They are mirrors; simple tools to use to examine their own reflection. And when the mirror no longer shows them what they wish to see, they will break it.

What is a narcissist at its core?
Someone who will override another person’s free will in any way they can. Often, this is done not through violence or outright demands, but through coercion and subterfuge. They get you to override your own inner compass by chipping away at your confidence in yourself…by making you believe that you are “less than”.
Generally, this happens because of a deep core wound in the narcissist that is often rooted in shame and a sense of unworthiness. But the manifestation of that is a personality that appears to be the opposite.
The underlying premise that they then carry into pretty much everything they do is that their desires and views are more important/valid/real than yours. In fact, they don’t think you even have the right to have views or perspectives of your own. You are not a person to them, you are a tool.
Let that sink in.
And then examine the society that we currently inhabit.
The only way to break that dysfunctional relationship is to wake up from it and reclaim your own Sovereignty. You’ll never be able to change their minds or force them to see you in any way other than the one they currently hold.
YOU have to change.
And yeah, that’s really fucked up and not fair and, and, and….
You can bitch all day. But when you’re done bitching, you’ll realize you’re the one who has to do the work.
And you will.
And you will be ok.

It was Narcissus’ mother who banned all mirrors in the realm. The Terrible Mother (the dark side of the feminine, just as Maculine has its own unique darkness) does not want her son to outgrow her and become a solar hero. It is masculine consciousness (solar hero consciousness) that must overcome stagnation and remaining mother-bound.
On a more concrete level, the mirrors being banned from the kingdom happens through emotional stress/ trauma. Mother’s when they are pregnant - the foetus can literally feel all of the mother’s feel and thoughts, her whole psyche whilst in utero - and during that first year of infancy, cause a disconnect between the healthy, natural formation of ego identity. This stress, need for the baby to be the perfect baby, baby to validate her constantly (etc) wreaks havoc on mother’s ability to provide a mirror for the newborn.
The infant needs loving, unbroken and non judgemental eye contact in that first year to gain a solid sense of identity later in life. The mother who tries to elicit the “right” emotions/ responses from her baby, to feed her own validation needs, or if the baby senses any kind of rejection/ abandonment, conditions their child to do anything they can to get the love of the mother back (seeking their “only positive” reflection in their mirror/s).
The child learns to be completely intolerant of any shadow emotions because to show them would mean abandonment, which is Death to an infant. They “Self murder”, repressing any rage, terror or grief, which means that none of these are tolerated in their precious mirrors (you and I) “out there”.
Buuuut this is all of us until we realise that we can allow narcissus to “die” and so mature our ego to allow for shadow in self and the therefore in others.
It’s painfully obvious that there has been so much stress inflicted on families over the past… Age, no wonder so many have these traits.
As we bring love to the rage, terror and grief in ourselves, so we can allow others their own shadow selves. Allowing the need for “only positive” to die, we allow ourselves to be fully real, shadow and all. Narcissus dies, but the Son is reborn and re-turns with greater self awareness.
