For me, the process has been slow. I’ll have a bit of a breakthrough in understanding from the adult perspective that I have now, and then a series of memories will surface for me to re-file. It’s as if I’m being given the chance to experience those moments again, but from a place of seeing the larger picture. It’s a process and it’s a form of time travel - Healing the Inner Child by going back to help her see what was really going on.

This allows me to put those memories where they actually belong in my Mind instead of having them stored in a heap in the basement with the door locked.

As a starting point, I did have some memories from my childhood, but not many. And the ones I did have tended to be the moments where I was connected to my Self. Times when I stood up for myself or I asserted my REAL Feelings. Times when “Me” had not been overridden by someone else’s Will.

Everything else was kind of a blur. Static, like it says in the video. And other things that I thought were memories, revealed themselves to simply be times that I had taken my parents’ story as a “memory”. Even though I did not, in fact, actually remember the event.

What I had were recollections of repeated stories that were told to me - anecdotes. “Memories” of images on photographs and the stories that were told to me about them. They were not mine.

I did not know that this wasn’t normal until fairly recently. I did not understand what had happened in my own psyche, and when my husband and children would point out that I rarely ever told stories from my past, I said it was because I didn’t have any. And I felt ashamed. Interesting, right?

I also tend to have trouble with my memory, even now. Trying to determine whether something actually happened, or whether I dreamed it is a real issue.

Your Mind won’t give you more than you can handle at a time. You just need to be willing to look.
