In simple mathematical terms ....
+ times + is positive --> LIGHT
+ times - is negative --> DARK
- times - is POSITIVE because they cancel each other out --> LIGHT
2 out of every 3 means the Light has more power; it wins more battles.
The Laws of the Universe apply to EVERYTHING.
