If this does not convince you to get a water distiller....
I clean my water distiller after every use to return it to its shiny self.
After each distill, the images show the disgusting contents of the tap water. Distilling removes all of the toxins/poisons and the end result is beautiful clean water. Also, my kettle is always clean.
I use my distilled water to drink, cook, for my iron and to clean my work tops with.

HOW I GET MY DISTILLER SUPERCLEAN
Daily I use white vinegar which I spray around the distiller and a dish brush. This is done as soon as the distiller has stopped distilling. For maximum effect, the distiller must be hot.
Then every 2 weeks, I soak my distiller with Citric acid.
Using Citric Acid: I put the distllier on to boil using ½ pt of water without the lid on and only using the plug which is like your kettle. Then, once boiled, I unplug it, and add the 1½ tablespoons of citric acid and leave to stand for 15 minutes.
* ½ pint of boiling water and 1½ tablespoons of citric acid.
I then rinse the distiller out using the dish brush to clean around the side walls and then fill it up with clean water to rinse.
