The German Volkssturm was a German military organization that emerged at the end of World War II. It was formed following a call by the National Socialist German Workers' Party to all men aged 16 to 60 who were capable of bearing arms. The purpose of this call was to strengthen the forces of the Wehrmacht. The formation of the German Volkssturm was announced on October 18, 1944, on the 131st anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig, and officially proclaimed two days later. As a result, the first units of this group were deployed on September 25, 1944, by the Führer's order.
