Morning all

UK column fans and those that attended the Bristol talk - guess what

The Assisted Dying Bill contains a Henry VIII clause. You will all remember from the Bristol talk what this is and what it means

Why would you have such a clause in a piece of legislation covering the delicate and legal minefield of dying?

This Clause means that the executive can amend or repeal the Act in the future, if it becomes law, without parliamentary scrutiny or checks and balances

THIS alone should make people realise that assisted dying is likely to be expanded by the executive without further debate in the future. If this Bill becomes law as is, there will be nothing we can do to stop the use of these Henry VIII powers
