Newsweek: Armed Forces of Ukraine makes a post featuring photos of neo-nazis, 2022

quote:
...Image appeared to be shared on social media on February 14 by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was later syndicated by a number of outlets and agencies, and was featured prominently on the front page of the following day. ... images included what appeared to be a Ukrainian servicemember bearing a "Black Sun"... The symbol, also known in German as "Schwarze Sonne" or "Sonnenrad," is rooted in Nazi occultism and has been brandished by far-right elements across the globe, including in Ukraine, where it is featured on the official logo of the National Guard's Azov Regiment*.

"As part of an International Women's Day collage for social media, we posted an image from stock footage of an international agency," a NATO official told Newsweek. "The post was removed when we realized it contained a symbol that we could not verify as official.**"

* Well, we all know it's not only in the logo of Azov but thanks to the BBC we also know that it's a bloody name of their official magazine
=> BBC: Azov Battalion magazine which goes by the name 'The Black Sun', 2021

** Wait! I'm a bit confused:
NATO says: "Black Sun could not be verified as official symbol";
Newsweek says: "it is featured on the official logo of the National Guard's Azov Regiment";

▫️But wait, there is more:
On March 9, 2022 the Canadian CTV network published an article featuring even more Ukrainian women in military uniform with The Black Sun symbol. The article was promptly taken down, but the web.archive remembers.

On the 10th, the Canadian CTV network apologized for broadcasting the picture of

"Ukrainian female soldiers wearing offensive symbols on their uniforms", saying that "it is regrettable that they were not recognized before broadcasting."

▫️But wait, there is EVEN more:

Inshe TV (Ukraine): A school fair to support the Ukrainian military in Donbass, 2014

04.12.2014 The Motherland Spilnota community, together with the students and teachers of the First Ukrainian Gymnasium, held a school fair “Give Warmth to a Soldier” as part of the “To warm a hero” campaign to raise funds for the 79th Ukrainian separate airmobile brigade which fighting the separatist in Donbass.

The busiest trade was at the table, where girls in embroidered shirts and with wreaths on their heads sold:

▫️ "Cheesecakes made out of Russians",
▫️ "Bandera pie" (Bandera is a war criminal and ethnic cleansing perpetrator)
▫️ "Blood of Russian infants" (cherry juice) was given free of charge (on the photo for the post)
▫️ "Yellow-Blue stars over Kremlin"
etc.

As one of the activists of the Homeland Spilnota community, Victoria Onufrieva, said (hers is the first interview in the video):

This is not the first school pastry fair that takes place in the educational institutions of Nikolaev in order to raise funds for sewing warm clothes for our heroes.

At the end of the video the reporter asks the schoolgirls about strange "naming convention" for the pastries?

The girls:

We have picked them with the help of our form-mistress (smth like a headmaster, the overseer teacher). And the people here really like the names...

The reporter:

Yeah, but why these strange names and noscripts?

The girls:

It raises the sales numbers and people really like it.

P.S.
Dehumanize your enemies to make your soldiers killing them easier.

BFM TV (France): Ukraine names a street which leads to the mass grave of the victims of Nazis in honor of a nazi collaborator... , 2022

A talk (all in French) with Arno Klarsfeld, lawyer for the Association of Sons and Daughters of Jewish Deportees from France (FFDJF), international political columnist at BFMTV.

======
He stated that he supported Ukraine's entry into the "European family", however,

in order to legally become a member of the EU, Ukraine "must lookback into its history" and stop glorifying collaborators who killed Jews.

In Kyiv there is a memorial
Babi Yar. In 1941, in Babi Yar, the Nazis massacred the civilian population. From September 29 to October 11, 1941, the SS and their accomplices destroyed almost the entire Jewish population of Kyiv. It has been established that in total about 150 thousand Jews alone died in this place. The street that leads to the memorial was renamed in honor of Stepan Bandera*, who is glorified in schools and who killed tens of thousands of Jews and collaborated with the Nazis. Europe has economic values, legal, but also has moral ones. You cannot simultaneously commemorate the Jews and tens of thousands of Ukrainians who were killed by the Nazis, and praise those who killed the Jews [Bandera, OUN, UPA]. It's impossible! In this case, Ukraine has no place in Europe if it does not move away from its history.

======

*About Bandera:

▫️University of Pittsburgh: Institutes of memory management and myth making were created in Ukraine, a key function -- to deny ww2 atrocities of the newly forged national heroes, 2005

▫️The Jacobin Magazine: Ukrainian Jews sought the protection of the Germans from the Bandera lead UPA, (1943-1945)

▫️The Foreign Policy: Ukraine honors neo-fascist involved in the Holocaust and the ethnic cleansing, 2015

▫️The Guardian: Leading British historian is utterly outraged by prohibition of his book in Ukraine, over passage detailing wartime murder of Jewish children by Ukrainian militia, 2018

▫️New York Times: Torchlight march honoring ethnic cleansing mastermind Bandera. Ukrainians chants 'Jews out', 2017

▫️A collection of opinions about Bandera's atrocities from USA Today, The Salon, The Huffington Post, Libération (France), The BBC, Le Figaro, The Associated Press

The American Conservative: The Nazis Globalist Liberals Prefer To Ignore, 2022

quote:
... it’s appalling to watch the trans-Atlantic liberals elide, excuse, and obfuscate the presence of neo-Nazis and other ideological ghastlies among their champs in places like Ukraine and Hungary. ...

The message: Here are the grannies, little kids, and (attractive) young women manning the front lines of democracy against Russian reaction and revanchism.

What Americans and British reporters didn’t report: The training was offered by the Azov Battalion, which has its base in Mariupol. Our own FBI describes Azov as a “paramilitary unit…known for its association with neo-Nazi ideology and the use of Nazi symbolism” and alleges it “participated in training and radicalizing United States-based white-supremacy organizations.” (Defenders of Azov counter that it’s a regular unit, merely “rooted in a volunteer battalion formed by the leadership of a neo-Nazi group,” as if that’s much better than the FBI account.)

NBC News: Ukrainian Rabbi Plays Down Neo-Nazi Threat From Nationalists [towards the Jews but fails to hear Martin Niemöller screaming at him], 2014

quote:
Senior Ukrainian rabbi, Moshe Reuven Azman, said he was not aware of new anti-Semitic acts since Yanukovych's fall and had not heard anti-Jewish statements from leaders of far-right parties. He cautioned against speculation on the issue being "exploited" for political ends.

"There's no big, general Ukrainian problem," Azman said, playing down some instances of Jews being attacked in the street and the firebombing of a provincial synagogue during the past few months of protests. He contrasted post-Soviet Ukraine's tolerance with "official anti-Semitism" in Soviet times.
===end of the quote===

Continuation of a post about Senior Ukraine rabbi and Martin Niemöller screams...

The sheer idiocy of the rabbi stance is mind boggling. He, of all the people, should have seen what would happen next! The Rabbi is ok with the fascist Right Sector?! Sure, why would he be afraid of them, the ukrainian nazism is mainly aimed at the Russians not at the Jews.

▫️ A video of a school assembly in Lviv, Ukraine. Children chant: "Hang the Russians! Jump if not Russian! Knife the Russians!" Since the rabbi is not Russian, he is safe from those children ... Right? Right?

▫️We all know how this logic played out for the people of Donbass, hopefully no one belonging to the said Rabbi's congregation was hurt there since 2014.

▫️This rabbi's interview happened in 2014 and in 2017 Ukranians chant "Jews Out!" while torchlit match in Kiev. I wonder what kind of an interview would the rabbi give right now. He might even make an attempt to "contrast post-Soviet Ukraine's tolerance with "official anti-Semitism" in Soviet times" again. I wonder how would it play out... :)

▫️Israel’s official annual report on anti-Semitism around the world in 2017 concluded that such incidents had doubled in Ukraine and the number “surpassed the tally for all the incidents reported throughout the entire region combined.” By the region, the report meant the total in all of Eastern Europe and all former territories of the Soviet Union.
Great job rabbi!

▫️The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum quotes the following text as one of the many poetic versions of the speech:[2][3]
===========
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.

P.S.
For those wondering who Martin Niemöller is...

P.S.S.
Some Ukrainian Jews did read about Martin Niemoller, but the passion to defend the freedoms was lacking or absent at the moment and now it's just too late:

The Jerusalem Post: Ukrainian Jews split on dangers of protest movement, 2013
quote:
Some local Jews have been worrying that the presence of
Svoboda[neo-nazi party], one of the leading opposition factions and a significant presence in the street protests, may portend an ugly turn for the Ukraine.
