More than 50 US Congress members condemned Ukrainian legislation glorifying Nazi collaborators, 2018
quotes:
"In 2015 the Ukrainian parliament passed a law that criminalizes denying the “heroism” of some of these allies of Nazi Germany, which oversaw the near annihilation of the region’s Jews."
"The letter states that “It’s particularly troubling that much of the Nazi glorification in Ukraine is government-supported.”
"The glorification of fighters who allied with the Nazis against Russian domination increased considerably in volume after 2013."
take a look at the article's main picture, where there is a young lad in a black T-shirt. The T-shit symbol is "Celtic cross"(neo-Nazi symbol) + "white power" words around it.

There are more letters of this kind (USA lawmakers, Congress members and other branches of USA power) to the USA Congress. There is this example too:
40 House democrats signed a 2019 letter asking the state department to designate ukraine’s neo-nazi azov battalion as a terrorist organization. Link to the original letter.
some quotes from the document:
"The Christchurch, New Zealand massacre was a turning point for counterterrorism efforts. In his manifesto*, the shooter claimed he had trained with the Azov Battalion in Ukraine, and he routinely wore a neo-Nazi symbol associated with them."
*This is case is quite interesting since we know that another nazi organization Karpatska Sich (with ties to Azov) translated and urged its members to buy a copy of the The Christchurch shooter manifesto."

USA West Point: Far-right nationalism looks to Ukraine as their field of dreams., 2020

"In recent years, some Americans and Europeans drawn to various brands of far-right nationalism have looked to Ukraine as their field of dreams: a country with a well-established, trained, and equipped far-right militia—the Azov* Regiment—that has been actively engaged in the conflict against Russian-backed separatists in Donbas.
In a July 2015 interview on the Azov* podcast, Semenyaka said: “We try to reconstruct the problem of this European decline, so to speak. And we want to start a revolt against it. Reconquista, revolt, revolution—of course all of them are homological concepts which are quite understandable to European right-wingers and other educated persons.”

EU Parliament resolution: Ukraine parliament party Svoboda is racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic, 2012
======
quote:
Parliament goes on to express concern about the rising nationalistic sentiment in Ukraine, expressed in support for the Svoboda Party, which, as a result, is one of the two new parties to enter the Verkhovna Rada. It recalls that racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic views go against the EU's fundamental values and principles and therefore appeals to pro-democratic parties in the Verkhovna Rada not to associate with, endorse or form coalitions with this party.

The Svoboda party is the direct descendant of openly neo-fascist Social-Nationalist party of Ukraine of which you can read in this dedicated post.

The leader of racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic Ukrainian political party Svoboda Oleh Tyahnybok and a member of Ukraine Parliament (1998-2014).
Here are some materials about his worldview:
* A video of Oleh being passionate about how Ukrainians nazi collaborators, during World War II, bravely fought Muscovites, Germans, Yids/Kikes/Jews pigs and other scum. Sorry no English subnoscripts, but you can watch the other video where Gregor Gysi (MP to German Parliament) talks about Oleh and this speech of his.
*According to Simon Wiesenthal Center, Oleh ranks honorable 5th place in the top ten anti-semitic slurs. He share this place with his friend Ihor Miroshnychenko (there'll be a post about this lad later, he deserves a dedicated post for himself :)
*According to the Kyiv-based newspaper Sedodnya and to many other sources, In June 2013, Tyahnybok and another Svoboda Party leader were barred from entering the U.S. for their open anti-Semitism.

Everyone knows of neo-nazi Azov but less about Aidar battalion atrocities. Let's fix this:
Brief history:
The Special Assault Battalion Aidar subordinate to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine was initially comprised of activists from the organized Maidan self-defense group. Commanders of Aidar in different times were:
1. Ukrainian parliament member Sergei Melnichuk is the founder and the first commander the special assault battalion Aidar. On May 12, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General proposed to strip Melnichuk of parliamentary immunity because he was suspected of forming an organized crime group. It was implied that this “organized crime group” was actually the Aidar battalion. (source: Meduza.io link below)
2. Vladislav Horanyn was a commander of Aidar and also a leader of a neo-nazi organization Belyy Molot (“White Hammer”). Neo-fascist confederation Right Sector expelled the White Hammer in March 2014 for “lack of discipline” shortly after Horanyn was arrested on suspicion of killing three police officers. G. Maysky, a self-defense fighter, was captured by the Aidar battalion talks about being injected with psychotropic drugs and then tortured with a stun gun: ‘Aidar battalion officers tortured and starved me, while keeping me bound and blindfolded.
They brought a young man from Luhansk captured by the Aidar battalion. His whole body was blue, he resembled one big bruise. Another young man came with us, he was tortured – they shot a bullet through his leg and cut his finger. Some men told us that they made our guys run through a minefield.
During the night 23–24 November I was arrested at my home by the Aidar battalion. We were taken to the airport of Mariupol. The beating and torture there were so severe that we kept blacking out. They would beat us on the heels, ribs and head. They said they were going to break our legs, threatened to cut off our ears and gouge our eyes out. My friend got his insides beaten up and skull fractured; he was paralyzed as a result.’

On January 29, 2015, ex-commander Sergei Melnichuk announced that the battalion was essentially disbanded, and the following day he announced that the Ukrainian army began shelling the battalion. That day, Melnichuk’s supporters attacked the Ministry of Defense building in Kiev and demanded that the government stop targeting Aidar. The government dismissed the attack and the request as provocations from the side of former criminal Aidar fighters."

Sergei Melnichuk: Yes, there were. But this was done by the people who were "at the battalion", who said that they were fighters, but did not participate in the battles. The events referred to in that report took place during the summer campaign, when we almost encircled Lugansk, I was absent for almost two months, I fought around Lugansk. And at this time they hunted in the rear.
BBC: Do you want to say that all these looting, cases of ill-treatment, theft and blackmail, as well as possible executions, are the work of people who are not "Aidar" but freely used his name?

"Historian Jochen Hellbeck (Ph.D., Columbia University) notes that one of the new [Ukrainian] laws condemns both Communist and Nazi regimes of the past, as well as their symbols. However, the law mostly focuses on the Soviet era while ignoring atrocities committed against the Jews, "let alone the participation of Ukrainians in these atrocities."
Hellbeck writes that "the omission is strategic," since another law actually glorifies partisans affiliated with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army or UPA, who collaborated with the German Wehrmacht.
In 1943, when the Germans fled from Ukraine, many local policemen who had collaborated with the Nazis joined the UPA while committing atrocities against ethnic minorities. One UPA commander, Roman Shukhevich, espoused anti-Semitic beliefs and recently his grandson proved instrumental in helping to pass the new legislation."
